I shouldn't laugh, but...

The kids were running around as always being their insane selves. Alex got a new sword and shield for his birthday and loves telling everyone how powerful he is. In fact he ran up to me, and out of nowhere announced, "You can never have my powers!" I was speechless...and just a little offended.

Well this video was taken while they played. It kinda made me laugh.

What was I thinking??

Summer is here, my kids have long anticipated the long, lazy days free of homework and full of promising fun activities to do with Mom. How disappointed they have been. Me and my genius mind thought it would be no big deal to go ahead and take 12 hours this summer semester and still have time to go to the water park, museum, zoo, six flags, etc. Eh, not so much. I find myself stuck with my laptop solving the math mysteries of the universe, otherwise known as algebra, while they get completely caught up on Wizards of Waverly Place seasons. What a good Mom am I?

I resolve to get caught up this weekend on all homework, in between blowing in new insulation to the attic, two sleepovers with friends/cousins, a end-of-year swim party for Christian, and church. So once all of that is done, I will DEFINITELY get caught up.  Next week will be much better, full of fun, lots of things to do.

Riiiigghhhhtttt.....

Boys are awesome...

It is about time we start making our kids more responsible, make them work, make them earn their keep, right? So this morning Ben tells the boys to go out and get the lawn mowed (mind you we have quite a bit of yard) and to build character they can use the push mower. : )

I am upstairs doing homework and getting ready for finals when I look out my window to see how they are progressing. I see William plugging along making headway, while Christian is walking along behind him swinging a stick in the long grass. I yell out from my balcony and ask Christian why is he not helping. He replies, "I am! I get him water when he is thirsty!"

Classic.

Ready for the break...

Ahhh, the time is finally here. Just took midterms, house is clean, ready to get out of dodge and enjoy my family for a few days. Now for my few random thoughts...

  • Christian got to dissect his first rat heart this week. He came home and said he got to stick his finger inside, it was squishy. "Unnamed child" said he thought he was going to throw up. Christian that he would pass out from excitement.
  • I studied the phases of mitosis ad nauseum. When a question about it came up in my exam, I choked. WHY?!
  • Ben and I started P90X. Wish us luck.
  • I finally broke down and watched this today. Definitely worth the 9:26 minutes out of your life.
  • I had dinner with an OLD friend last night that I have not talked to in some time. Staying up until midnight talking was fantastic - waking up at 5:40 to get ready for the day was not.
  • I am taking kids to see Sleeping Beauty at Artisan tomorrow. Dad promises they will be delighted. I'm sure they will be after they raid his candy closet there.
Bedtime.

Time to grow up

How surreal is it when you realize your kids are growing up, getting hormones, contemplating their first kiss, etc?

Christian was helping Ben chop up a tree that came down with all of the snow last week. While working, Ben came across a sprig of misteltoe and showed it to Christian, whose immediate reaction was to run and find William and our family friend Jessi (those two have had a long fondness for each other, as only young kids can) and then proceeded to try and hold it over their heads and make them kissy kiss. Of course William and Jessi take off in different directions running for their life, screaming how disgusting that is.

Later on Christian comes in to clean up and brings the stick with him. As soon as I saw it I told him to take it back outside, I don't want Alex getting hold of it and hurting himself or someone else. Christian looks up at me and says, "I was going to save it and take it to church with me."

I immediately knew what he was talking about, but Ben looked over at me with a question in his eyes. You see, in our new/old ward there is a beautiful young girl that Christian has long held a special place in his heart for. When we moved back here and he saw her again he thought she had become even more perfect than when he last saw her. When Ben mentioned that if you're caught under the misteloe you HAVE to kiss, Christian immediately started strategizing his move. I had to tell him that you have to have TWO willing participants and unless he wants to be in hot water with all of the parents he had better just hold off on the whole kissing thing.

This morning I was collecting laundry from his room and found that precious little misteltoe hidden safely at the bottom of his drawer, kept safe until the appropriate time comes to make his move.

It's about time...

I LOVE reading other peoples blogs and keeping up-to-date with what is happening with friends of mine that I fail to keep up with due to our busy lives. I keep saying to myself that I need to do better in recording memories and writing down the funny, insane, obnoxious, and proud moments that come from being a full-time mom, full-time student, wife and perfectionist. Not only that, writing is a fantastic outlet for all of the things I never say, but would LOVE to.

So, that said I am going to make every effort to try and maintain my blog. No excuses. Everyone who knows me well, knows I ALWAYS have my handy dandy iPhone with me and with all of the apps available on it for blogging I now cannot use the excuse that I didn't have time to sit down and type. So here goes nothing!
